Humble beginnings in Ft. Vermillion Alberta belied the true nature and destiny of one of Canada’s great artist.  Growing up surrounded by nature and wildlife, native folklore and spirituality, Graham came to understand the interconnection between man and his world and infuse this wisdom into his art.

His skills were further honed at the Alberta College of Art in Calgary, and Graham has gone on to a career spanning 35 years as a sculptor and painter.

Respected across the nation as a leading “Elder Aboriginal Artist”, Graham Pettman weaves together stories and brings them to the life in stone.  With the subtlety of a trickster Fox, his stories convey sensitivity and passion, and capture the essence of each character with a joyful honestly and humanity that is as much a characteristic of his own personality.

Hammers, chisels, and brushes are but crude instruments in the hands of this great artist.  From the richness and depth of his imagination are revealed the hidden ancestral riddles, and gems of wit and wisdom, making us richer for the ageless legacy left to us by this whimsical calligrapher, a dreamer whose riddles and stories are written in stone.

With deep appreciation, thank you for your contribution to the world of art – from friend and fellow artist: Dave Mathia
